INTRO TO IMAGE TRANSFERS (4 hours)

Explore the many techniques of transferring photographic images to watercolor paper, fabric and other surfaces using laser copies and ink jet transparencies with solvents, gels and mediums. With image transfers as opposed to taking the image and gluing it down, you create transparent effects which allow exciting possibilities of layering your images with paint, text, pattern, wax, gold leaf, collage.

ADVANCED IMAGE TRANSFER

For those of you that need a quick recall of the methods taught in the beginning class, this is the class for you!  We will do a quick review of previous techniques, and jump right into new methods to enhance your work: creative backgrounds, combining drawing and painting, adding text, and more.

Bring multiple copies to give you the freedom to experiment, and a willingness to get outside of the box!

PHOTO TRANSFER AND THE ARTIST BOOK

Create a unique book filled with your personal images. Learn folded and sewn bindings to create a one-of-a-kind artist book.

In addition, everyone will go home with a collaborative book, including transferred images from all participants. This is “bound” to be an exciting day.

IMAGE TRANSFER AND ENCAUSTIC

Begin by spending the first morning learning the many techniques of transferring images to a variety of surfaces. Using high contrast black and white and color Xeroxes of your images, we will experiment with a variety of solvents and mediums to create images ready for collage and direct transfer.

Then the excitement begins! After a brief introduction to the ancient art of encaustic painting, and discussion about safety, surfaces, and wax, we will practice techniques combining our images with wax and learn techniques of layering, scraping, incising, and adding collage items. Transferring images of photographs, drawings, calligraphy, appropriated images, etc. to the wax surface will be demonstrated, as well as how to incorporate collage items.

Combining photo transfers, images and text with encaustic painting is innovative, experimental and affords many new possibilities for the artist. Extensive notes, samples, and demonstrations will be given.

PHOTO LITHOGRAPHY

Combine your interests in photography and printmaking into one class! Experiment using a xerox copy as a plate, applying ink to its damp surface and running it through a press to create luminous, richly colored prints, similar in quality to the antique look of photogravure. Emphasis will be on exploring and expanding the use of photo-generated images in combination with printmaking processes. An Advanced Photo Lithography class is also offered.

PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER

Are you stuck and don’t know how or what to do to finish your project? Bring your unfinished pieces, and Linda will guide you in the right direction to create a professional piece of art. Composition, techniques, color, layout, and ideas will be discussed both in the group setting as well as one-on-one.
